Breadfruit Leaf Heart Protector

Breadfruit, which in English is called bread fruit, the fruit is more widely known as fried snacks or breadfruit flour can be made and treated into noodles or bread. In fact, the plant breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) is very potential to be developed into drugs to prevent heart disease.

Traditionally, leaves of breadfruit have been used to treat liver diseases, inflammation, heart and kidney. Meanwhile, in Taiwan, the roots and trunk of the breadfruit plants used to treat cirrhosis (liver cancer).

Test efficacy of breadfruit leaf extract shows the effect of decreasing blood cholesterol and fat accumulation in the aortic wall of blood vessels in mice in the laboratory. This study concluded that the breadfruit leaf extract effectively protects the heart from acute systemic attacks.

The discovery of toxicity tests showed no toxic side effects on test animals, did not affect heart function, kidney and liver, and hematological profile.
